Cardinal traces its grooving roots back to its extensive work with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Langley Field, Virginia in the late 1960’s. In conjunction with NASA, Cardinal invented the SAFE-T-GROOVER® to eliminate hydroplaning on airport runways. Cardinal holds over fifty patents in the grooving and related fields.
About Cardinal/International Grooving and Grinding
Since working with NASA in the late 1960s to develop what are now the standards for runway grooving, Cardinal has been recognized as the industry leader in both innovation and production. We have grooved more runways than any other company in the world with over 40,000,000 square yards in the last ten years alone in both asphalt and concrete. Unlike most of our competition, Cardinal’s sole focus is the grooving and grinding of airport runways.
We are not involved in tangential lines of business like sawing and sealing, coring, slot cutting, bump grinding, light installation, painting, etc., so when our team shows up to your project you know you are getting the most highly trained and experienced personnel in the industry, not a crew who encounters a grooving project only occasionally or not at all, and whose expertise lies somewhere else. And like our personnel, Cardinal’s equipment reflects our commitment and dedication to being the best in the industry.
All of our equipment is vacuum equipped to provide the cleanest, most FOD free runway at the end of every shift and to eliminate the need for vacuum brooms and extended cleanup. Our biggest piece of equipment, with over 700 horsepower and 1,950 foot-pounds of torque, is capable of grooving a twenty foot wide (6.1 meter) concrete runway panel in only two passes, and we have equipment for every type of project, both domestic and international. Cardinal can complete a grooving job faster and more efficiently than any other grooving company and that means less schedule disruption and lower cost to you.
International Groovers
Cardinal maintains a fleet of groovers for overseas projects ranging in size from 0,9 meters to 1,4 meters and up to 402 horsepower that all fit in standard shipping containers to quickly mobilize to your project.
Domestic and Canada Groovers
Cardinal SAFE-T-GROOVERS® range in size from eight to nearly nine and a half feet in cutting width (2.44 meters to 2.89 meters) and have production capabilities of up to 1,800 square yards per hour (1,500 m²).
Vacuum
All Cardinal groovers are equipped with an on board slurry pickup system to provide a clean, FOD free runway without extensive washdown or ancillary vacuum equipment.
